President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on December 18 received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov in Tashkent.
The sides discussed the state and prospects of Uzbek-Russian multifaceted cooperation and important international and regional issues affecting the interests of both countries.
The head of state, welcoming the guest, noted the progressive nature of the development of bilateral relations almost in all spheres of interaction, reports the press service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Today the important achievements of the implementation of the Summit in June 2012 in Tashkent and signed agreements in principle on the basis of their declaration on deepening the strategic partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation.
Priority for the further strengthening of Uzbek-Russian dialogue is to enhance mutually beneficial relations in trade, economic and investment fields.
The past few days before the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation confirmed mutual interest in further diversification of bilateral trade and investment relations.
At a meeting in Tashkent, special attention was paid to the issues of regional security and stability and to take joint measures to combat common threats and challenges of today.
S.Lavrov, for his part, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and the opportunity to thoroughly and objectively discuss prospects for cooperation in the bilateral and multilateral levels, and reiterated the readiness of the Russian leadership to building long-term and constructive relations with Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
