Drug trafficking has become one of the most serious transnational threat facing the humanity today. In all regions of the world there is a tendency to scale international drug trafficking and related organized crime. This requires hard, consistent and coordinated action by the international community; enhance multilateral cooperation to combat drug-related crime, strict implementation of all the countries of their obligations in this area.
It should be noted that 85 percent of drugs of opium on the world market of heroin and opium produced in Afghanistan. According to expert estimates, the income from opium trafficking drugs is 68 billion U.S. dollars. According to the UN Office for the fight against drug crimes in the world, more than 250 million people use drugs continuously, the year of Afghan drugs kill more than 100,000 people.
Execution of the UN Convention "On the fight against unlawful traffic of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances", to which Uzbekistan is located in the focus of attention of the Parliament. That is the issue dealt with parliamentary hearings on "On implementation of the UN Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in Uzbekistan", organized by the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Inter-parliamentary Relations.
It was attended by representatives of the National Center for Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers, the Attorney General, State Customs Committee, the Ministries of Justice, Interior, Health and Media.
During the discussion it was noted that in Uzbekistan to exercise control over drug trafficking, an extensive legislative, regulatory and legal framework, establishing effective organizational infrastructure. Thus, the rules of the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances" (19 August 1999), "On medicines and pharmaceutical activity" (25 April 1997), "Health Protection" (29 August 1996), the Criminal Code and other laws of a legal basis for the control of large-scale trafficking and consumption of drugs.

In addition, Uzbekistan cooperates with the UN to combat drug crimes, UNDP, OSCE, EU Commission, the World Health Organization in the area of control of narcotic drugs, the fight against drug trafficking.
However, as stressed by the deputies, the drug situation in the Central Asian region continues to be challenging. This is largely determined by the proximity of the region with the world's largest producer of opiates and heroin - Afghanistan.
According to the speakers, in the fight against drug trafficking on the ground, preventing crop plants containing narcotic drugs, particularly improving the effectiveness of crime prevention among youth related to the import, distribution and possession of narcotic drugs, the importance of the interaction of local state authorities, local authorities, ODM "Camelot", the Women's Committee, the media and other civil society institutions.
Also, at the event were a number of proposals on the implementation of international standards in national legislation in this area and thereby improving the regulatory framework, to ensure control over the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and their precursors, as well as increased international cooperation in this area, and In addition, the system of education and awareness activities, educational and prevention among young people in the communities.
At the end of the event to discuss the issue was decided by the Committee.
